European Shoah Legacy Institute organized 2 days long conference “Living with Dignity” on 26th and 27th May 2015. The conference focused on issues facing Holocaust survivors and other Victims Nazi Persecution and exploring best practices and realistic mechanisms to assist Holocaust (Shoah) survivors and other victims of Nazi persecution with the view of them having at least a modicum of dignity in their remaining years. The conference was attended by roughly 200 representatives of 39 governments, the European Union, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and independent experts. The conference had the patronage of the Czech Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Labour and Social Affair, the European Parliament and the European Commission. It was further supported by the Israeli Ministry for Senior Citizens, U.S. Department, EVZ Stiftung and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Co-Chairs of the Conference, US Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, Special Adviser to the Secretary of State for Holocaust Issues, and Jiří Šitler, Special Enjoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for Holocaust Issue and Combating Anti-Semitism, in a joint declaration released at the conference’s conclusion.
