A doll found in the German concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen in 1945 has been restored.  It was found at the camp by Major Margaret Jump, a British nurse in Queen Alexandra‘s Royal Army Nursing Corps.  The doll, named Gretchin, was found in Major Jumps trunk a few years ago after she died.  The doll was restored in its Czech national dress.  There is no information available about the child who owned the doll.  Major Jumps niece, Sue Hedges, has been incharge of the restoration proces.  Bergen-Belsen was liberated by Allied troops in 1945 and later the camp was destroyed.  From 1943 until liberation, it was a concentration camp for Jews, with an estimated 125,000 detainees.  Ms. Hedges hopes that the doll can be used for educational purposes to help children learn about the Holocaust.
