The European Shoah Legacy Institute is pleased to announce the establishment of the Provenance Research Training Program (PRTP) to provide advanced training in provenance research and related issues concerning Nazi-looted art, Judaica, and other cultural property.
"The Holocaust - Keeping the Memory Alive" opens at the UN and the EC
Marking the 67th anniversary of Auschwitz liberation, an exhibition "The Holocaust - Keeping the Memory Alive" feauring 16 entries of an international design student poster contest opened at the UN headquarters in New York and in the European Commission in Brussels. Supported by the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (ITF), the exhibit was organized by Yad Vashem, le Mémorial de la Shoah, ESLI and the UN Holocaust Programme.
Holocaust Theatre Online Collection Project launched
In partnership with the European Shoah Legacy Institute, the International Institute for Jewish and Israeli Culture launched the Holocaust Theatre Online Collection Project (HTC).
Israel Joins European Shoah Legacy Institute
The government has approved Israel’s membership in ESLI Sunday. The institute was established by the Czech government to restore Jewish property and promote holocaust research and education. The government has decided that the Senior Citizens Ministry, led by Deputy Minister Leah Ness, will represent Israel at the institute.
President of the Czech Republic, Member of the Honorary Board of ESLI, Mr.Václav Havel passed away
The European Shoah Legacy Institute would like to express its deeply felt sorrow for the passing away of the former President of the Czech Republic and our valued Honorary Board Member Mr. Václav Havel.
It has been a great honor for us that a personality of Mr. Havel´s importance and reputation in the field of human rights promotion has joined our ranks in order to advance the rights of Shoah survivors and other victims of Nazi persecution.
The Last Flight of Peter Ginz
To mark the sad 70th anniversary from the establishment of Ghetto Terezin, the European Shoah Legacy Institute has teamed with the public benefit organization Opona and the Jewish Museum in Prague to organize a premiere screening in the Czech Republic of a new American documentary called The Last Flight of Peter Ginz about an exceptionally talented child artist who wrote poems and novels and drew and painted, and following his incarceration in the Ghetto Terezin, lead and edited an underground youth magazine called Vedem.
European Reflection on Totalitarian Regimes
Taking into account the huge number of survivors of the Holocaust - as well as of other tragic events of the 20th century - the European debate must not be reduced to a debate on historical reflection. There are all-too-real consequences of history, including health care and social welfare of the victims. Hence, the reflection of totalitarian regimes is by no means a question only for historians, but also for social workers and health-care providers – and not the least for those who take care of human rights.
The Advisory Council of ESLI Launched its Operation
The Advisory Council of the European Shoah Legacy Institute, a unique body comprised at the present time of 61 renowned experts on the legacy of the Holocaust, began its work at the first coordination meeting of the Working Group Chairs, which took place Sept. 13-14th in Prague.
